November Bee Blocks

Here are the bee blocks that I have made for November 2014:

Quilt Club Australia - Stars Bee (paper piecing)

This month is my queenly reign. My chosen colours are:
Main Colours: Lime green & Teal/aqua.
Highlights: orange, yellow, purple, white, hot pink.
Background: plain black.

So far I have received 6 blocks from the girls so I will post these instead as I am yet to make one for myself.

The three down the left hand side were all made by my dear friend Carlie.
The top right was made by Ineke.
The middle right was made by Sue.
The bottom right was made by Wendy.
There are 6 still pending including my own.

Once I have received all of my bee blocks for this year I will do a separate post and feature them all.

Quilt Club Australia Hive #5

This month is Diane's queenly reign. She has asked us to make her a block for her "Eye Spy Quilt" for her Grandson.  We were asked to sew a 2.5" border around a 4.5" centre block.  Diane will trim the blocks herself, so I have shown a photo of an "Eye Spy Quilt" so that you can understand what the blocks will eventually look like:

The two blocks I made for Diane.  She will trim them herself.

Quilty Sisters Instabee

This month I made Jo's block which is the Baseball Curves Block.  Jo wanted us to use low volume fabrics for the curves and something bright and happy for the background.  She requested that we do not trim our blocks so that she can adjust them all to fit.

Quilty Stitches blocks 13 - 16

It gives me great pleasure to show you my final four blocks of "Quilty Stitches" by Little Miss Shabby.  Have you been sewing along with me?  You can click on the links below to access the instructions for each block from her website.

Block 13 - the "Friendship Star" block

Block 14 - the "Pinwheel Star" block

Block 15 - the "Spool" block

Block 16 - the "Good Cheer" block

And this is how mine currently looks:

But I think that like any quilt, it needed some binding; so I added a black and white border to it which I think makes it pop:

I have seen a number of versions of finished projects.  Some have turned their Quilty Stitches into cushions, framed them, or mounted them on canvas.  Little Miss Shabby chose to mount hers on canvas and has provided instructions on how to do so here.  To see other's versions on Instagram, type #quiltystitches into your Instagram search.

I am yet to go shopping for a frame or a canvas...

We have a new family member!

Yesterday we welcomed a new member to our family.  Let me introduce you to "Greeny" the Bilby.

I first saw Greeny's adoption photo on Isabella's Instagram feed and immediately it was love at first sight!  After verifying that I would be a suitable adoptive Mum, Isabella carefully packed Greeny into his shipping container and sent him off to his new forever home.

Yesterday morning I heard a faint knock at my front door and opened it to find Greeny sitting there.
"Hello.  Is this my new forever home?"

It had been a long journey for Greeny and just as well that Auntie Isabella had told me what food bilbies eat so I had plenty of chocolate and nutella on hand to feed him.  The bananas hadn't held up too well in the heat so I will make Greeny a special banana cake with them instead.

Greeny was very happy to be offered so much food after his long journey.

Happy with a full belly.

Greeny meets Gemma the cat & gets kisses.

Deep in conversation, Gemma fills Greeny in on the house rules.

Greeny gets to know the lions.

Greeny makes friends with Kenya & Kozi

Mini "Norway" for Sharon

What do you give a quilting friend who loves Bonnie & Camille?  A Thimble Blossoms mini quilt made out of Bonnie & Camille fabric of course!  Last week I visitted my dear friend Sharon @lilabellelane and I surprised her with this little mini.

Whilst at her house I was able to view her Bonnie & Camille fabric collection - apart from all her yardage (not pictured), she has a jelly roll and layer cake in each fabric range.

Bonnie & Camille jelly rolls - she has one of every collection!

Her Bonnie & Camille folded layer cakes - also one of each collection.

I was also fortunate to view her La Passacaglia project in person although this photo just doesn't do it justice.  It has all been hand pieced by her (English Paper Piecing) and is made out of Tula Pink fabrics.

Still a work in progress, Sharon's "La Passacaglia"
